Masaba Gupta made an appearance with her mom Neena at the Shoppers Stop Chrysalis 2009, where Shoppers Stop gave the graduating talent of PVP, SNDT College an opportunity to experience the commercial aspects of manufacturing and retailing garments and were therefore briefed to design for Shoppers Stop’s exclusive labels LIFE, i-Jeanswear, Haute Curry, Push & Shove and In‘sense.

Fashion Background
Masaba is currently in the last year of her apparel design & manufacture course at SNDT, University, Juhu, Mumbai.

Achievements
Her collection at Chrysalis 2009, SNDT's annual college festival, won rave reviews, after which she was approached for the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW). There she was adjudged the Most Promising Designer in the Gen Next category.

Why Fashion?
Masaba has always enjoyed singing, dancing and even acting. But it was her flair for fashion that emerged strongest. "I design for mom... saris, kurtis, even everyday T-shirts. She loves them," says Masaba, who was always good at sketching. Dad Viv Richards helped by telling her to focus on one thing. "He knew I had a flair for fashion," she says.

Future Plans
While Masaba supplies to stores such as Sattva and Zoya in Mumbai, she hopes to expand her base soon. "I hope to be at the LFW next year and Bollywood styling is something I am interested in," she adds.
